Metropolitan Life Insurance Company was founded in New York City. We had one mission - to offer the best quality financial products and services.
1912
We transformed our headquarters into an administrative relief and support centre for Titanic survivors and their families. As was the first protection company to pay out on a claim on the Titanic disaster.
1930
We helped thousands of farmers restore and buy back their foreclosed farms during the Great Depression.
1989
We established ourselves outside the US in Korea and Taiwan
1991
We become the first insurer in North America to surpass $1 trillion of life insurance in force.
2000
We become a publicly owned stock company with MetLife, Inc. listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
2007
MetLife first opened its doors to the UK. We registered our European offices in Dublin, Ireland, and our UK offices in London and Brighton.
2011
MetLife Europe d.a.c. signs 10-year £100 million contract with Capita Group
